Curricular Programs
Components of the Four Blocks Model and
Write from the Beginning are used to implement a literature-based
reading and writing program. Cooperative learning and learning styles
strategies are used to support the integrated curriculum used in all
regular classrooms. Third grade classes are self-contained. Fourth and
fifth grade classes are teamed. Hands-on activities, exploration, and
manipulatives are a daily part of science and math. Gifted and talented
students are offered enrichment classes each week.
Innovative Programs
Corrective Reading (decoding and comprehension), Corrective Math,
and/or Edmark are used in the LD resource, LD self-contained, and EMD
classes. A school-wide reading incentive program, Accelerated Reader,
rewards students and teachers with incentives when a certain level is
reached.
Volunteers provide reading services to area primary and elementary
students. Students have access to the Internet, along with weekly
computer training and instruction through our CCC Labs. Family Math and
AIMS (Activities Integrating Math and Science) increase student
opportunity for math and science exploration. Multicultural activities
increase student awareness and appreciation for other cultures.
Special Services
Special education classes for the learning disabled, visually or
hearing impaired, and mentally disabled are provided and focus on
transition and independent living skills. Speech, orientation, mobility
services, occupational therapy, and physical therapy are provided
weekly. Counseling, psychological testing, and a school nurse are
available.
