Career Day 2014 a Huge Success!

On Feb. 26, we held our annual career day event. All three grade levels attended three conference-style sessions with speakers representing careers in which the students had shown interest. The jobs represented by the speakers ranged from high school diploma with specialized training to doctorate level degrees. We extend a special “thank you” to the following businesses for their participation: Wal-Mart Distribution; Pageland PD; Auman Law Firm; Great Clips in Camden; Sandhill Telephone; Chesterfield County First Steps; Hospice of Chesterfield County; Waiters Martial Arts Studio; Screwmatics; Eagles Radio; The Link; Brown Creek Animal Hospital; Department of Justice ATFE; Conbraco Industries; Lugoff Toyota; VS Fish & Wildlife; Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Department; Bladez Salon & Spa; SC Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy; Mrs. Linda Estridge; Mrs. Rhonda Wallace and Mr. Chad Johnson. Members of the NHMS Small Ensemble, led by Director Geoff Mack, performed a selection during the speaker reception following the event. First Steps Massey Dec 2013_thumb.jpg

Hawks Learn About Philanthropy

On December 16, the 8th grade social studies classes of Miss Shemeika Massey donated over a hundred items to Chesterfield County First Steps, as part of their recent study of philanthropy. The food items, bottled water and juices helped provide nutritious meals for students at Petersburg Elementary and the parents who are served through the Blessings in a Backpack program.  Other items donated were paper products, baby wipes and clothing, small blankets, pencils, markers, educational flash cards, books and small hand-held toys for babies. Program director, Karen Odom had an opportunity to talk with Miss Massey’s students and explain the impact made by their generous donations. First Steps currently serves nearly 1,000 families in Chesterfield County and provides other programs such as BabyNet, Imagination Library and Incredible Years. If you would like to make donations or serve as a volunteer for First Steps, please call 843-623-5904.

Parents join students for Thanksgiving Lunch

A group of 100 parents joined NHMS students for Thanksgiving Lunch on November 21. Everyone enjoyed the delicious turkey & dressing with the works. We are glad parents were able to take advantage of spending time with their children during the school day. Cafeteria Director, Ms. Vivian McBride noted, “This was a big success.” We appreciate all the efforts by Ms. McBride and the cafeteria staff members to make sure everything ran smoothly for our special guests. Pictured, 6th grade student Jimmy Horton enjoys sharing a meal with his family.

We extend a very special "Thank You" to Miss Central High School, Brittany Cato! She worked with all the girls as they prepared for the pageant. Brittany developed the choreography for the opening number and coached the girls in stage presence and individual introductions. Her leadership style made the practices enjoyable for everyone.

We also extend a very special "Thank You" to Genna Rivers who provided special music for the pageant. Genna is a very talented individual!

New Entry Requirements for 2013-2014 School Year

Attention Rising 7th graders and Parents

South Carolina requires ALL 7th grade students to show proof of a Tdap shot to attend school.

Tdap is a booster vaccine that protects your child from three dangerous diseases: tetanus, diphtheria, and whooping cough also called pertussis.

DHEC wil be offering FREE Tdap shots during a special clinic on August 14 from 1:00pm until 6:30pm at the Chesterfield County Health Department in Chesterfield.

If your 7th grader has not gotten their Tdap shot yet, I strongly encourage you to attend the special clinic and get a free vaccine.

Thank you,
Penny Jacobs, R.N.
